Daily Announcements 1/21

The next Student Advisory Committee to the School Committee will meet Thursday, 1/23, in media center at 2pm.

It was an exciting weekend for the boys' basketball team!  Trailing by 15 points in the third quarter, the Falcons rallied to earn a hard-fought 57-56 overtime win over Bourne Friday night.  Ben Roache's 3 point shot with 34 seconds remaining provided the margin of victory.  Roache finished with 19 points, Nick Koneski added 20, and Jason Ramos had 13.  On Sunday, the Falcons defeated Fairhaven 63-33.  Ben Roache had 22 points, Keanu Baltazar had 12 points & 16 rebounds,  Nick Koneski added 10, and Nate Swartz had 9 points.

Attention Speech and Debate Team! We will have our normal Tuesday meeting today after school. All members who are planning to go to Columbia University's tournament must attend. Those who are not going to New York can come next Tuesday.

This week's Leo Club meeting will be held this afternoon at 2pm in room 120.  Hope to see you there!

The D-R girls swim team attended the Bay View Swimming Invitational at URI this past Sunday and placed 16th overall out of 30 teams participating. Tayla Slater placed 3rd in the 50 Freeestyle and 6th in the 100 Freestyle. Kaitlyn O'Connor, Meaghan O'Connell, Sam Brown, Caroline DeCoste, and Tayla Slater also helped the team score additional points during the 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle relay races. Congratulations girls!

Congratulations to Raven Blanchette on her acceptance to Bryant University and to Amber Blanchette on her acceptance to Salve Regina University.

Led by Kylie D'Amborsio's 35 points, the girls' basketball team picked up their first win of the season at Fairhaven Sunday beating the Blue Devils 54-43. The team plays tonight at home vs. Case.

Congratulations to Hannah Johnson on her acceptance to Rhode Island College.

Congratulations to the Wrestling team for their 4th place finish on Saturday in the Somerset Dual meet tournament. D-R defeated Pilgrim High School (of Warwick, RI) by a score of 43-42 and Middleboro HS 46-18. Joe Tomellini, Brandon Tran, and Tom Ranley were all UNDEFEATED on the day. Strong performances were also given by Chris Tito, Joe Rapoza, and Dan Johnson. The Falcon Grapplers host IN-TOWN rival Bristol-Aggie HS tomorrow at 7PM.

The DR Hockey team won against Norton 5-4.  Nick Soares scored 3 goals with 2 assists, Brandy Botelho scored 1 goal and 2 assists, Matt McDonald scored 1 goal, Kyle Blythe had 1 assist.  The next game is against ORR on Wednesday and it is a home game @ 7:00 PM.

Congratulations to Samantha Rodrigues on her acceptance to Siena College.

The DR boys indoor track team won 2 races at the MSTCA state relay meet in Boston on Saturday.

The Sprint Medley relay team of Ty Enos, Victor Da Costa, Alex Goss, and Jake Juncker won the race in a school record time of 3:38.01. The time was the second fastest in Massachusetts this season and qualified the Falcons for the Reebok National Meet. Ty Enos led off with an impressive time of 1:56.8 for 800 meters and Jake Juncker anchored with a 51.8 second performance in the 400. Meanwhile, the boys 4X400 meter relay squad of Ty Enos, Victor Da Costa, Isaiah Ferreira and Jake Juncker pulled off a surprise victory in an extremely competitive race against Watertown and the elite team from Pembroke. Their time of 3:34.21 is the second fastest indoor time ever recorded by a DR team and was 0.5 seconds off the school record.

After four months of preparation, The DR Mock Trial Team begins its season next Monday, January 27th against Durfee High School.   After scrimmages against Whitman-Hanson High School and former state champion Maimonides School, the team is ready for the challenge.  Good luck to the team as they begin their trials.

In the event of a snowstorm that may cause the cancellation of school, the exams scheduled for the day school is cancelled will be made up immediately the next school day in session. For example, if Wednesday 1/22 is scheduled to be a Gold Day with Exams for Periods 1 and 3, then Thursday 1/23 will now be a Gold Day with Exams for Periods 1 and 3.  The schedule of exams will continue with Friday 1/24 being a Green Day (with Period 2 and 4 Exams) with the last day of exams being Monday 1/27 Gold Day with Exams for Periods 2 and 4. Furthermore, the beginning of semester 2 will be a Green Day.

Reminder to Student Government members, please be sure to wear your t-shirts tomorrow to School!


All after school activities have been cancelled for today, which includes drivers education.  There should be no students staying today, everyone should be going home on their bus.
