Dighton Rehoboth High School Opening Preparations

Dear Parents/Guardians:
As we prepare for the beginning of the school year, we are in the process of ensuring we are in compliance with safety and maintenance to open our facility for September 3rd.  Home and Commercial will be here testing our alarm systems throughout the day from Monday, August 18-Thursday, August 21st.  This test is performed each year to obtain our occupancy permits.  In addition, August 20-21, the Dighton and State Police will be here conducting drills for safety so areas of the building will be blocked off.  The building will be open for normal business but staff, students, and guests may be limited  access to areas of our facility.  This will not delay the commencement of our Athletics summer sessions next week.   We appreciate everyone's understanding.  Thank you.
Mrs. Van Buren, Mr. Braga, and Mr. Harrison

Freshman Transition Day 4

We would like to thank everyone for their support this week.  We hosted over 160 incoming freshman into the program and we look forward to working with them this spring.  Our goal this year was to have 150 students, and next year our goal will be to host the entire incoming freshman class.  Help us spread the word!
Today we started with our Superintendent, Dr. Azar addressing the class.  Dr. Azar made some connections to the incoming freshman about how they were starting this year in a new setting.  He also stressed the importance of taking full advantage of the many opportunities DR has to offer.
Next we dismissed the students and allowed time to go to their lockers and walk their schedules.  Then we met for our chopped exercise, where today's theme was "America."  Students worked in their teams to create 2 different food designs; 1- was a savory dish (main course), 2- dessert.  Students were able to "shop" in the cafeteria for their own ingredients to make each dish.  Next our Advisors/Judges (Mrs. Rose, Ms. D'Agostino, Ms. Burnham, Ms. Harwood) went to each table and judged based on creativity, design, and presentation.  The top 5 candidates then moved to the next phase for the taste testers (Mr. Antani, Mr. Nardozzi, Mr. DeLano, Mr. Garcia, and Mr. Braga).  We judged each plate on tastiness and their presentation to the judges.  As you can see from the photos below, it was not a healthy meal choice :-).  We also had the Taunton Gazette and Sun Chronicle here today taking pictures and speaking with students about the program.  After the chopped exercise we went outside for a group photo.
After the photo took place, our mentors and proteges went through 3 different stages: Academic Relay in the cafeteria, Obstacle Course in courtyard, and Spirit Week games in the gymnasium.  All the groups participated and enjoyed and seemed to enjoy each phase.        Next students went back to homerooom to fill out a 2+2 feedback (2-Positives, 2-Improvements) to help us build our program for next year.  We concluded with the students going to the auditorium where we wrapped up this week's events:

- Remember to join after school activities/athletics to get the full high school experience
- Mentors and proteges will continue the relationship throughout the school year.  We will meet 1-2 times per month and they can contact their mentors (contact information was exchanged earlier)
- Hopefully they are less anxious about attending the high school after the completion of the program.
- Feel free to approach any of the advisors at any time.
- Remember the concepts of the week: Team building, trust, supporting one another, and don't be afraid to go outside your comfort zone.

We would really like to acknowledge our advisors and mentors who put in so much work and effort to ensure that this week's program went smoothly.  We hope that your student enjoyed the program, and if you have any feedback for us we would appreciate it.  Thank you for your support and we look forward to working with your student in September!
