CTE Career Highlight - Carpentry

Each week we will highlight 1 of our 10 career pathways that our students at D-R can participate in through their elective studies. This week we are highlighting one of our "foundation" career areas:

Through the sequence of four years, the students enrolled in Carpentry learn structural design and become familiar with various carpentry concepts, such as layout, form building, rough framing, and outside and inside finishing. They also learn to use a range of industry-standard tools, machines, equipment, and materials of the trade.

Our Carpentry students learn blueprint reading, freehand sketching, business operations, and many selected industry-standard carpentry competencies. Graduates from this program are positioned to enter the trade with an Apprenticeship Card, or to pursue collegiate study in majors such as Architecture, Facilities Management, Building & Design in addition to many other areas of study. D-R Carpentry graduates have attended Wentworth Institute of Technology, Mass Maritime Academy, Johnson & Wales, Bridgewater State, and New England Tech in order to expand upon their career opportunities.
