Today is the 4th day of our Anti-Bullying/Cool to be
Kind week. Thank you to all our student
volunteers who helped out with the activity in the cafeteria yesterday and to
all the students who participated to help us send the message loud and clear
that DR Falcons don’t bully! As many of
you know, cyberbullying is a form of bullying.
A recent study showed that 88% of social media-using teens say they have
seen someone be mean or cruel to another person on a social network site. 12%
of these teens said they witness this kind of behavior “frequently.” We need to
spread the message that it is “Cool to be Kind”. Use the #DRCooltobekind to help spread the
word that DR Falcons are kind! As the Dalai Lama once said, “when we feel love
and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for,
but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace.'
We have asked all first period teachers today to distribute
a special edition of the Falcon Flyer to all students. In this special edition our “student
journalists take a stand against bullying”.
We are asking all DR Falcons to do the same. Together we can end bullying!
Are you looking for a job?
Check out the Job Board in Guidance for new postings.
Ms. King's Green 3 Honors U.S. History I class is reminded
to go to FIRST LUNCH today!
All boys' basketball players are reminded to return their
uniforms today after school.
Congratulations to Elizabeth Griffin on her acceptance to
Connecticut College, Mount Holyoke College, Roger Williams University, Skidmore
College, and UMass Amherst. YAHOO!!
This is just a reminder that the winter track banquet
will be today at 5:30 in the cafeteria. Freshmen should bring a main dish,
sophomores a side dish, juniors dessert, and seniors should bring drinks.

Anti-Bullying/Cool to be Kind Week at DRRHS!
We have been off to a great start with our activities! On Monday students signed banners during lunch. On the first banner students signed that they would not bully. On the second banner students wrote different ways to show kindness.
While students were eating lunch they also chose a random act of kindness from the "bucket of kindness". Students were encouraged to complete the act within the week. Some examples included:
- Doing chores at home without being asked
- Saying thank you to a teacher, bus driver, or librarian
- Posting something positive to social media using #DRCooltobekind
- Making dinner for their family
On Wednesday all students and staff were encouraged to "Black out for Bullying" by wearing all black clothes to school. Students then had their pictures taken holding various Anti-bullying/Cool to be Kind posters. These posters were created by our staff and students. The Video Production students will use the pictures to create a video.
On Thursday students can expect to read a special edition on the Falcon Flyer regarding bullying and on Friday a special episode of DR news will be aired.

This is day 2 of our Anti-Bullying/Cool to be Kind
week. Did you know that it is a myth
that bullying will most likely go away when it is ignored. Ignoring bullies
reinforces to them that they can bully without consequence. We need to stand up to bullying. If you are someone you know is being bullied
it needs to be reported. Please tell a
teacher or administrator to help put an end to bullying.
Instead of bullying- DR is learning it is ""Cool
to Be Kind""! Did you know
According to ""Psychology Today"", researchers have coined
the phrase ""helpers high"", which is defined as a
""distinct physical sensation associated with helping"". In
some studies this ""helpers high"" has been shown to
produce more health benefits than exercising 4 times per week!
Today we were planning on holding Assemblies on Social Media
and Bullying but at this time they will need to be rescheduled.
o Please note- The
order of the periods for today will continue to remain as 4-2-3-1
Finally, don't forget that tomorrow DR is Blacking out for

encouraged to wear all black to school.

Today is the beginning of our Anti-Bullying/Cool to be
Kind week here at DR.
We have activities planned throughout the week to show DR Falcons
never bully!
Bullying includes repeated teasing, threatening to hurt
someone, spreading rumors, and attacking someone by yelling at them or hitting
them. Bullying does not always happen in
person. Cyber bullying is a type of bullying that happens over text message or
social media. Bullying increases the
risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors
o So
instead DR wants to be kind! Some benefits of being kind:
Helps
your own mental health
We feel
happier when we perform acts of kindness.
People who
are kind and compassionate are usually the most successful.
Today in the cafeteria we invite all students and staff to
take a pledge against bullying. Sign
your name to indicate you will not be part of bullying. Additionally, we have a banner we want to
fill with acts of kindness. Finally, we
will have a bucket of kindness in the cafeteria during all 4 lunches. Choose an act of kindness from the bucket and
perform the act throughout the week
o Lastly,
Wednesday is Black out for Bullying day.
We are encouraging all students and staff to wear all black.” Thank you!
Attention All Spring sports teams! A reminder that team pictures will be taken
tomorrow Tuesday March 29th immediately after school in the gym. Please
remember your uniforms.

College Process for Seniors Updates
Greetings Seniors, Parents and Guardians!
Once students have received college acceptance letters, the next step is to choose a college and figure out how to pay for it. And while this is an exciting time, it can also be overwhelming. MEFA (the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority) is offering upcoming seminars on Paying the College Bill. This seminar is designed to help families examine and compare financial aid awards, calculate the balance due, develop a plan to pay the bill.
At this event, you can bring your financial aid award letters, and a MEFA representative can assist you in better understanding the 'bottom line' with your award.
MEFA Paying the College Bill seminars are currently scheduled in many towns, see: http://www.mefa.org/ events/paying-the-college- bill/ for a list of locations and dates.
Good luck! - Mrs. Maidment and Mrs. Tremblett

Second Annual Poetry Slam
The D-R Leo Club recently hosted its second annual Poetry Slam. Gathering in the Harrington Media Center, the laid-back evening was an opportunity for our students read personal favorites, as well as original poetry, while enjoying good food and good company.
Over the last couple months the Media Center has been undergoing a makeover to make it more 21st century. Here is a photo taken today that demonstrates the open concept. More information coming soon!

Today in Ms. Saxon's Physics class students were using springs to simulate waves. Using the springs they created waves with different modes. They counted the number of oscillations in a given time period. From that they calculated the period, frequency of the waves, wavelength, and speed of the wave. They were able to physically observe the relationship between the frequency and wavelength (higher frequency = smaller wavelength ).

Jacqueline Amaral, Lucielle Maslen and Caitlin McNaughton competed in the Titan Business Challenge at The University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. The girls competed as a team against 55 other teams in the Southeastern Massachusetts Region. For their third place finish, each of these young ladies was awarded a $500 scholarship. It's been a great week for Jackie. In addition to placing in this competition, she also qualified to go to the DECA National Competition and scored $1200 in scholarship money at the State DECA competition. To top it all off Jackie also received her acceptance letter from Bentley College!
This past weekend, the DRRHS DECA Team joined 72 other high schools by competing in multiple events at the Massachusetts State Career Development Conference held at the Boston Marriott Copley Plaza in Boston.
The Massachusetts State Career Development Conference is the pinnacle of the DECA year. Over the 3 days of competition and leadership activities, students vie for an opportunity to represent their school and District at the National DECA Conference. To qualify for Nationals, students must place in the top two positions within their specific competition. With over 70 categories of competition available, students must first win an opportunity to participate in the State competition, by placing at the District level. Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School qualified 16 students for this year's State Competition!
This year, we are so proud to announce that D-R has qualified TWO students for the National DECA Competition to be held in April in Nashville, Tennessee!
Seniors, Jaqueline Amaral and Sophia Gregoire placed 2nd overall at States in the Hospitality Team Services competition. This multi-faceted event includes a 100 question exam, plus two extemporaneous 10 minute presentations based upon a business related problem scenario. The D-R team had 30 minutes to put together a solution for each scenario prior to presentation.
This is a great achievement for D-R and for Jackie and Sophia! Congratulations
The cast and crew of Big Fish are hard at work getting ready for the production. The show is April 7, 8, and 9 at 7:30. Tickets are $10.00 for the general public and $5.00 for students. Email elasalle@drregional.org for reservations.
