This Week & The Week Ahead

This week we were able to kick off our spring sports with some pretty fair spring weather.  We enjoyed seeing our student-athletes take the field/courts this season representing #DRPride.  We would like to wish all of our students and families a happy and safe April vacation.  With only 20 days left for seniors, we want to encourage the Class of 2016 to finish strong.
On Thursday, April 28th @ 6:00 pm Mr. Braga will be holding an open discussion regarding tolerance at DRRHS in the auditorium.  Mr Braga has invited Simmons College Professor Ms. Kathy Lopes who is also a social worker to assist in the discussion.  Ms. Lopes teaches Dynamics of Racism at Simmons College.  On Friday April 29th, students will participate in an assembly with Mr. Braga and Professor Ms. Kathy Lopes to discuss Tolerance. More information will be coming soon regarding both events. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Braga (KBraga@drregional.org).

This Week’s Senior Showcase:
We are proud of all of our student accomplishments and we wanted to create a mechanism to showcase your accomplishments.  This week we featured senior Joey Rogers who has been able to make some memories over the last four years.

Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Annual Awards Banquet:
This annual celebration provides a most fitting opportunity to recognize truly exceptional young men and women.  Selected by their local school, each student has excelled in his or her academic and career pursuits, while actively engaging in service to their school and community.  They represent the very best in vocational-technical education.  On Thursday, April 14th, Senior David Simpson was recognized for his academic performance in Drafting Design & Engineering at Dighton-Rehoboth.

Dean’s Desk: As you can see the DR Spring Sports teams  have  finally kicked off after some real rough weather for our first two weeks of competition.
Athletics:
  • Baseball: Article in Sun Chronicle.  Varsity Baseball struggled in their first game of the season losing to the Bourne Canalman 4-1. Incredible wind on the Cape hampered play for both teams. DR baseball ran into another tough opponent fighting off Fairhaven 1-0 at their home opener. Incredible shortstop play by Matt Andrade. Hitting was slow but just enough to grab the win.

  • Softball: The girls got behind in a big way playing their home opener with Bourne as well but was able to pull off the victory with some excellent pitching and savvy coaching.  In classic fashion the softball team traveled to play the Fairhaven Blue Devils and came  away with their second win of the season to make the records cool 2-0 in the SCC.
  • Lacrosse: The Boys Lacrosse team traveled to East Bridgewater High School with a strong battle although coming away with a loss they represented DR well.  DR LAX boys took on SCC rival GNBV but lost by a score of 12-2
  • Girls LAX: DR Girls Lacrosse had their first historic game against GNBV losing 14-2. Goals scored by Peyton Maccarone and Lindsey Silvia.  Casey McKeon added great defense throughout the game!
  • Tennis: DR boys and girls tennis teams  traveled to Somerset to take on the Blue Raiders.  As you can see our courts are having a makeover and are now open for anyone to play on. We will be beautifying the area around the courts over the next few months.
