This Week and the Week Ahead

This week the DESE released embargoed MCAS data.  Even though our students scored similar to last year’s MCAS scores, we were designated a Level 2 school due to not meeting gap narrowing goals.  What this translates into is that the state sets the goal at 75 for our high needs student population, and we scored a 67.  We will work with our staff to conduct targeted professional development to increase our MCAS achievement.

CLICK HERE TO ACCESS PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE PORTAL
September 29, 2016
Dear Parents/Guardians:

Today, September 29th, our online portal will open at 7:00 am that will allow parents and guardians to set up conferences with teachers. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Thursday, October 6th and Thursday, October 13th. The sign-ups for parent teacher conferences will work the same as last year. Any parent may sign-up for a conference during the day on Thursday, October 6th from 11:30-2:00 pm. However, parents with the last names ending A-K will sign-up for conferences during the evening of Thursday, October 6th from 6:00-8:30pm. Parents with the last names ending L-Z will sign-up for conferences during the evening of Thursday, October 13th from 6:00-8:30 pm.  This alpha split for evening sign-ups will allow increased opportunity for parents to sign-up without having to come back to the D-R campus multiple dates.  Like last year all appointments are 10 minutes in duration. Please do not book appointments back to back since you need to leave time for you to travel from room to room. To access the online portal on September 29th, please check your email for the live link tomorrow morning at 7:00 am or visit  www.drregional.org for the link as well. The link will also available on the school blog, www.drfalcons.blogspot.com.

Here are the directions to sign up for parent teacher conferences:

1) Click here to access the link (see link above) (Check your email or go to www.drregional.org) at that time.

2) Register  by completing YOUR (not your child’s) First Name, Last Name, Email Address, and Password (twice). Click Register. You may remember your login and password from last year so please use it if you remember it!

3) Go back to the same link and login with your email and password.

4) Select Add and Edit Children to enter your child’s names in.

5) Once you have added your children, select Schedule inside the box where it says “Current Child on File.”

6) Select Conference Date  and then select ALL the Teachers you would like to meet with. Select Submit.

7) Check off one time for each teacher that you previously selected when you are available. Do not book times back to back since you need to consider the time it takes to move between classrooms.  After you have checked off your times, select Home at the top of the screen.

8) Select Schedule Conferences again. This time select print/email to verify and have a record of the conferences you scheduled.

DRRHS Boosts Security:
This week we started the process to install 16 cameras inside and 6 cameras outside for views of the parking lots.  Our top priority is student safety.  We are hoping that the process is complete by early next week.  Thank you for your support and we look forward to demonstrating transparency.

Getting to know the DRRHS Student Parent Handbook- Cheating

As part of the “Getting to know the DRRHS Student-Parent Handbook” series this post will discuss cheating.
Information on cheating can be found on page 53 of the handbook here.
A concern of every teacher is the matter of cheating.  Some of the common variations of cheating may include:

  • looking at another student's paper or using technology inappropriately during a test or quiz
  • carrying information into a test
  • copying or using another student's work
  • plagiarism- taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own
  • providing information or materials to another student
  • altering or defacing a teacher form to prevent accurate automated scoring
  • submitting the same work to more than one course
For a first offense in a course, a student will receive no credit for the work, three office detentions, and the student's parent(s) will be notified.  Subsequent offenses in any course will result in a minimum penalty of up to three school days suspension, and depending on the situation, a student may also be subject to the following consequences where appropriate:  a failing grade for the course, suspension from athletic and/or co-curricular activities, and eviction from organizations such as National Honor Society, Student Government, etc.

Getting to know the DRRHS Student-Parent Handbook- Driving and Parking Regulations

As many have noticed we have started the “Getting to know the DRRHS Student-Parent Handbook” series.  These posts are being developed to highlight some key points in the Handbook to help improve our communication regarding our expectations for students.   Previous posts have discussed the attendance policy and portions of our discipline policy.  Today’s post will summarize our driving and parking regulations.  We have begun to issue warnings to students who are not displaying their parking permit and to students not parking in their assigned spots.
As always advised please visit the handbook here for the complete details.
Driving and Parking Regulations:
·         Firm 15MPH speed limit on school property and all drivers and passengers must wear safety belts.  First offense will result in 3 weeks suspension of driving privileges.  Second offense results in suspension of driving privileges for the remainder of the semester.
·         Students must drive responsibly to and from school
·         Students who are tardy 8 or more times in a semester will lose their driving privilege
·         Students must only park in their assigned spot
·         Students may not sit in their vehicle or remain in parking lots for extended periods.
·         Students parking in areas not designated to them will be subject to loss of privileges and/or towing
·         Any student not displaying the parking sticker properly may be towed at his/her expense
o   Cost of towing will be charged to the student
·         Any student who leaves the building or school property without permission will lose their driving privilege

DR Trail Update:
Trail work will commence this weekend despite the possible rain showers. If the weather declines and the rain becomes a problem Noah will contact all the participants.  Over 50 volunteers will participate.  If you would like to join Noah on this project, please contact him at ndaavila@gmail.com.

Here are a few things to note in preparation for this project and this upcoming weekend:

When:  We will commence at 9:00 AM-4:00PM on Saturday, October 1st and Sunday, October 2nd.  The trail is located at the high school.
Where: Meet at the far left corner of the Senior lot located across from the Rehoboth entrance.
What to Bring: Bring work gloves, a rain jacket, work/hiking boots, a water bottle, and tree branch clippers.
What to Expect: Volunteers will be removing vegetation from the ground, piling up dead branches, picking up garbage, cutting roots, and landscaping the main entrance to the trail. There will be something for everyone to do which best fits interest and our need.
Snacks and Lunch: Approximately 12:00-12:15 pm.  Pizza will be served for the volunteers. We will also have light snacks available.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out the Project Registration form.  This form is essential for us keeping everyone safe and is mandatory in order to participate. The form can be accessed here.

Updates
- There is now a Remind 101 for this project. If you would like to receive text updates on the project (Reminders and Cancellations) please text @drtrail to 81010. This will not spam your phone as there will be minimal texts sent.

- We now have over 50 volunteers signed up, this is absolutely astounding. If there is anyone who wishes to participate and is not included in this email have them fill out the Registration form here.

- If anyone needs proof of service hours after volunteering at an event, they should email me and I will happily assist them.

I look forward to seeing some of you this weekend. As always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Any questions, please contact Noah via email @ ndaavila@gmail.com
