Everyone was dressed in thier very best outfits, couples holding hands, freshman a bit nervous for thier first Homecoming. Flashes of pictures being taken...
I made it my business to really take in this night from a distance.
To take a second to just watch these beautiful kids having the time of their life.
Two young freshmen came up to me a said "Mr. Kelley this is one of the best nights I can remember!"
I just smiled...and thought as they walked away just how fast time will pass for them here at DR.
Many of our Seniors, saddened that it would be their last.
Some hugged me with thanks, as their final Homecoming came to a close.
And they knew it.
You could just see the emotion in their faces.
You see, as our children graduate and move on with life, no one knows who they are when they leave 2700 Regional Road.
BUT we as parents, teachers, administrators, school committee members and coaches never forget them.
Their faces, their academic accomplishments, or their games whether won or lost.
It is here in this building, that they were children for the last time.
A mere snapshot of childhood.
They will always remember the school colors, mascot, teachers and coachs' names, the way the halls, gym, and cafe looked.
Even how the roof leaked on rainy days.
They look so grown up and ready for a very difficult journey into life and hopefully we were able to prepare them for what's to come.
So it is with a tip of the hat and a quick hug to say thanks for letting us adults be a small part of your life.
You make us very proud of the profession we've chosen, and hopefully someday you will smile, as I did last night, and remember us fondly!
Thanks for a great night everybody!
Let the DR Spirit Week begin!
