Due to the inclement weather the following sports and activities will be canceled for tonight.  Winter track practice, wrestling practice, girls and boys basketball practice, cheerleading practice, drama rehearsal and chess club. The basketball game and swim meet is also canceled for today. All other activities must end by 3:30 pm today.

REMINDER TO AP STUDENTS: Final payment for AP exams is due tomorrow, February 1st. Please remit your final payment to Ms. Shillan in Guidance.


Latin and French Clubs! Come ice skating in Providence this Wednesday from 4-8 pm. See Mrs. Loell with the details!

There is a meeting for juniors in the National Honor Society after school in room 126 on Wednesday, February 1st. Please let Ms. Payne or Mr. DeLano if you cannot attend.

Leo Club will be hosting a Video Game night this Thursday, Feb. 2nd in the Media Center from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Bring your friends for a fun night of video games and pizza. Admission is 3 dollars. See you there!!

Pro Musica rehearsal will be this Thursday, Feb. 2nd from 2:00-2:45.

There is a student government meeting on Thursday, February 2nd in room 108. It will be brief but please see Ms. Beckett if you cannot attend!

Multicultural Night

The World Language Department is organizing a MULTICULTURAL NIGHT on Thursday, March 23rd from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The evening will include dinner and entertainment with foods, dance and music performances from several cultures.
We are looking for donations for DOOR PRIZES, such as gift certificates to local restaurants or services, clothing or other useful items!
If you are willing to DONATE food for dinner or door prizes, please contact Polly Cardea at pcardea@drregional.org.

Attention sophomores who took the PSATs! We will be going over your PSAT results in the Media Center on Tuesday, January 31st during period 2. There will be an announcement at the start of period 2 for sophomores with last names A-K to report to the media center. Then at approximately 9:30, there will be an announcement for sophomores with last names L-K to report to the media center.

The Mock Trial Team defeated Bishop Stang in their first competition last week, with exceptional performances by Emily Greenberg and Jarrett Cordiero. They compete against Case High School next week.  


Congratulations to Arthur Bubba Correira and Alum Joey Rogers for being honored Sunday for MVP Of the Massachusetts Coaches Association. Coach Bill Cuthbertson accepted the honor for our school 2016 baseball team as well. Congrats to entire DR baseball team and their staff.




Case defeated the boys' basketball team 73-58 on Friday. Elijah Brewster had 18 points, Alec Hart added 13 points and 9 rebounds and Chad Mello had 10 points.

The Falcons play first-place Apponequet here at DR tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.

DR Swim Team News

The DR Falcons Swim Team had their last Home meet last week against Apponequet. A well - fought contest for both teams- however Apponequet's superior numbers ultimately tipped the scales in the Lakers favor.
The Falcons recognized lone senior Kaitlyn O'Connor, as well as the Apponequet Seniors, in a pre- meet ceremony.
Kaitlyn is a phenomenally talented swimmer and mentor to her teammates.
She will be greatly missed by all.
 The Falcons Girls Team participated in the Bay Veiw Invitational Meet, held at Brown University, yesterday.
Olympic medalist Elizabeth Beisel was on hand to distribute the awards. But, more importantly , Junior Megan Alves finished 13th overall and qualifying time for the 50 yard Freestyle event at the MIAA Sectional Championships being held at MIT on Febuary 11 and 12. Great job, Megan!!
The Swimming Falcons take on Seekonk High tomorrow at 4:00 pm come on out and show some DR love!
We return on Thursday evening for the Conference Championship meet, the last conference of the season.

This Week & The Week Ahead

This week our students completed their midterms and today concludes second term and first semester.  We are halfway through the 2016-2017 school year and for those students who have done well, continue to work hard and improve.  And for those students who did not reach their full potential, use the remainder of the year to work hard, ask questions, stay after school for extra help, and study at home and complete any assignments needed to ensure your success.  Grades will be posted on Thursday, February 2, by 8:00 am.  If you have any questions, please contact guidance at 508-252-5050.

New Head Football Coach:
We would like to formally announce our new Head Football Coach David Moura.  Coach Moura has been both a teacher and a coach at Dighton-Rehoboth since 2003.  He has been a crucial part of our school community both in and out of school.  Coach Moura has been an Assistant Football Coach for 24 seasons.  During his 14 season tenure at DRRHS, Coach Moura has been part of 5 SCC Championships, 7 state playoff appearances, and named Assistant Coach of the Year in 2014 by the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association . His extensive experience includes collegiate and high school experience:
  • 24 seasons as assistant football Coach.
  • 7 seasons with UMass Dartmouth 1993-1999.
  • 3 seasons Dartmouth High School 2000-2002
  • 14 seasons at Dighton Rehoboth 2003-2016
    • *2013-2016 defensive coordinator
  • Additional Coaching Experience:
    • 6 Seasons Ice Hockey Dartmouth High School 1998-2004
    • 13 Seasons Boys’ Spring Track 2004-Present (9 Seasons as Head Coach)
      • 6 SCC titles as Head Coach
      • 2 New England Champions
      • 4 National Qualifiers
In the classroom, Mr. Moura has been a valuable member of the Social Studies Department teaching United States History and electives such as Sports in Society.  Mr. Moura is also responsible for creating the Criminal Justice program at DRRHS, which will be graduating its first class in 2017.  Mr Moura has coordinated the Dighton-Rehoboth Soup Kitchen drive for the past 7 years at the Fall River First Baptist Church on North Main Street, which will be held this year on Tuesday, January 31st (see information below).
Coach Moura is looking forward to next season and has already began preparations working with students after school in the weight room.  Mr. Moura’s ability to build student leaders who exemplify our DR Core Values will be an asset to our school community and our football program.  We look forward to a successful football season built on leadership and character.  Please welcome Coach Moura and we wish him and our team the best of luck!

Citizens Scholarship Foundation (CSF):
The Citizens scholarship foundation of Dighton-Rehoboth's Door to Door scholarship program is still looking for a Town Captain from Dighton. If you are interested in participating in this scholarship program as a Team Captain for the town of Dighton, please complete the application on-line at click here. The last day to apply for this town captain position is Feb 4, 2017. If interested, please see Dr. Tench for more information.

Guidance: Attention Class of 2018 and Parents:
During the week of January 30th, counselors Mrs. Maidment and Mrs. Tremblett will be conducting classroom presentations on important future planning information to Juniors in their English classes. We will also get students onto their Naviance accounts to begin several tasks. To view the presentation click on the pdf attachment below. Also a hard copy of student's' individual PSAT results will be distributed to those who took the exam.  
Beginning the following week and through April, counselors will meet with each Junior individually.  Parents are welcome to attend these individual meetings. During these Individual meetings counselors will review, guide, and discuss the following:
  • Transcript review with GPA and Percentile Rank
  • Academic course ideas for Senior year.
  • PSAT score results & Test prep if applicable
  • Standardized Testing calendar (SAT/ACT/ASVAB/Subject Tests)
  • Naviance: assessments, surveys, resume, brag sheet, & recommendation requests
  • College/Technical School Research, List and Visit Plan
  • Specialized information: College Offices of Disabilities (504/IEP), NCAA eligibility review for athletes, Performing Arts Auditions, Art Portfolios

On Monday January 30th during second period, your Guidance Counselor Mrs. Donahue and Mrs. Payne will be meeting with you in small groups to go over your PSAT results and what they mean.     • Speech and Debate Team: Congratulations to Madison Burtan, Jillian Henrique, Jarrett Cordeiro, Elijah Houghton, Patrick O'Malley, John Paul Landry, Kathryn Poole, Sierra Candeias and Ethan Thaler for traveling to and competing against over 50 schools from around the country at the annual Columbia University's High School invitational National Speech and Debate Tournament. All students worked hard preparing and competing in prose, poetry, duo, performance and debate events. Awesome job DR Speech and Debate team!

    • DR Ski Club:  The DR Ski Club is heading to Ragged Mountain Ski Area on Saturday, February 11th! All are welcome to join. An informational meeting will be held on Monday, January 30th. Permission slips are available in room 130, and are due back by Feb. 1st.

  • Boys Basketball: Overall Record, overall 6-9. SCC 5-7 Record
    • Chad Mello had 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Falcons basketball team to a 59-41 win over Fairhaven on Friday night. Arthur Correira added 13 points and 9 rebounds while Alec Hart gathered a season- high 17 rebounds.

    • Somerset-Berkley basketball team scored with 2.5 seconds remaining to hand the Falcons a heartbreaking 62-61 defeat on Sunday. Arthur Correira had 16 points while Chad Mello added 11 and Alec Hart 10.

    • DR girls lose a nail biter against the Bourne  Canalman 57-56 in last minute of the game.

  • Cheerleading: The DR competitive Cheer team continues to put in the preparation and work needed to do battle with the top SCC teams February 11th as host. Please support our cheerleaders!
  • Ice Hockey:
    • After a tough losing streak the DR Seekonk Hockey team pulled  out a great win against Apponequet High a school winning 3-1 on Wednesday night.

    • After  winning head to head against Bristol Aggie the DR wrestlers unfortunately came away on the losing end of the tape mostly due to forfeits. Coach Weaver says the team is getting better each week and is really proud of the work ethic and resilience the team has shown.
